About Jake

Jake Picture

Hey, there! I'm Jake Lauser, an accomplished attorney, former law professor, and avid homesteader. For over 15 years, I've studied, trained in, taught, and practiced law all over the United States. I've enjoyed many aspects of teaching and lawyering, but my family and friends know that my real passion is in agribusiness and practicing traditional homesteading skills. I started this website, Homesteaders.Legal, and its affiliate social media channels, to educate and empower other homesteaders to understand and navigate the often-convoluted laws effecting modern homesteading, in order for them to succeed in their business and hobby ventures, without running afoul of government regulations and bureaucracy, something that's becoming increasingly difficult for everyone in modern times. The information I provide is for educational and entertainment purposes only and cannot replace the targeted advice of a reputable, licensed attorney in your area. But if you want to learn the legal concepts and regulatory structures they don't teach people outside of law school, I can point you straight to the resources you'll need to legally start, and successfully operate your homestead or hobby farm business, helping avoiding the years of frustration, discouragement, and legal trouble so many other homesteaders have faced in the past.

Background:

Desert Cactus Landscape

Born and raised in Tucson, Arizona, Jake grew up in a family of pioneers. His maternal great-grandparents migrated from Kansas to the newly-admitted State of Arizona, where they homesteaded thousands of acres of cattle land before World War II. Half a century later, Jake spent several of his childhood summers helping his grandmother garden and raise chickens on her farm near Lynchburg, Virginia, dreaming of owning a farm one day.

Experience:

Suit and Tie

After law school, Jake passed the bar exam and became actively licensed in multiple U.S. jurisdictions. He operated his own law firm for several years before becoming a law professor, and later, entering the government sector. After four years of grueling service in the crumbling California legal system, Jake is transitioning back into legal consulting and regulatory compliance.

Education:

Fall Leaves

Before college, Jake became an aircraft mechanic and worked for several years as an electronics technician in the San Francisco Bay Area. He later returned to school and graduated from the University of Arizona before earning his law degree at the Appalachian School of Law in Grundy, Virginia. There, he reconnected with his homesteading roots, while roaming Southwest Virginia, East Tennessee, and Western North Carolina.

Interests:

Man with Hay

Jake finds his greatest joy spending time with family, sharing salvation in Jesus Christ with others, and exploring the many facets of homesteading through his YouTube channel, as a content creator. After years of chasing misplaced priorities and enduring many personal and career challenges, Jake is focusing again on the simpler, traditional values he's always known.
